Celebrating 50 years of making our communities well with 50 acts of wellness

Los Angeles Students Get Moving with Denise Austin

When: Tuesday, October 30

Where: Los Angeles, CA

More than 40% of children in Los Angeles are either overweight or obese, which can lead to severe health consequences including Type 2 diabetes and increased risk of heart disease and stroke. To help get kids moving and show how much fun exercise can be, RA50 brought fitness expert Denise Austin to Harmony Elementary School, of the Los Angeles Unified School District, where she led a group of 95 fifth graders in high-energy fitness routines.

We also provided 150 “after-school” kits stocked with school supplies, personal care items and healthy snacks. School parents showed their appreciation by preparing a healthy homemade lunch for the Denise and the RA50 team. Harmony Elementary School also participates in Marathon Kids, which is made possible in Los Angles by a three-year grant from the Rite Aid Foundation.
