When: Tuesday, October 16
Where: Detroit, MI
We were excited to take our anniversary celebration to the Matrix Family Health Center in Detroit. We partnered with the Detroit Health Start program to deliver 10 cribs filled with baby care essentials and 100 New Family Kits stocked with baby supplies. In Detroit, the infant mortality rate is 13.5%, almost double the U.S. average, and the Healthy Start program provides services, education and care to improve the health and well-being of women, infants and families.
A formal presentation welcomed Rite Aid to Matrix Center, as Department of Health and Wellness Promotion Deputy Director Betsy Posh and Dr. Marcella Wilson, President and CEO spoke to the attendees about the hardships that city of Detroit has been facing.
With a round of applause from the crowd of around 30 people, Rite Aid associates presented the expectant mothers with their cribs and baby essentials. The families at the presentation mingled with the team and shed tears of joy and gratitude as they shared how they just needed a break from hard times. Time was also made to deliver one of the recipients crib kit directly to her home.
When our time with the Matrix families came to an end, we felt proud to accomplish our goal of delivering a brighter today and hopeful tomorrow to these new families.
