Celebrating 50 years of making our communities well with 50 acts of wellness

Building Self-Esteem for Baltimore Youth

When: Friday, September 21

Where: Baltimore, MD

Our next stop was to the Boys Hope Girls Hope home of Baltimore where we were greeted with open arms and hearts. Our Rite Aid team delivered Teen Health & Beauty Kits filled with wellness, beauty and personal hygiene products to all the teen scholars of the Girls and Boys homes. The Girls Hope home has been featured on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and we had a red carpet tour.

After sharing experiences and aspirations, the teens and Rite Aid associates felt like a family. Pharmacists and associates joined in for a pick-up game of basketball, as well as dancing with the Boys Hope Girls Hope scholars. We all look forward to seeing each other again soon!

A thank you from Boys Hope Girls Hope

Dear Rite Aid:

On behalf of the scholars, staff and board of Boys Hope Girls Hope of Baltimore, we cannot thank you enough for the afternoon of celebration, gifts and pizza with the RA50 Acts of Wellness crew. We are overwhelmed by your generosity, warmth, care and concern.

Thank you Karin and Julie for orchestrating and so capably attending to each and every detail. Thank you for your sensitivity toward our scholars.

Thank you to Rob, Josh, Andy and Miranda for navigating and safely transporting the goodies. Thanks for telling our scholars all that you have experienced on the road.

Thank you Connie and Gayle for traveling so far to support us and telling us about photography and pharmacy technicians.

Thank you Marc, Heather, Pharmacist Raymond and all of the store managers and employee volunteers who gave of their precious time on a Friday afternoon to bring the Rite Aid love to our program. We appreciate how you showed authentic interest in our scholars taking the time to chat, play basketball with the boys and dance in the back yard with the girls.

THANK YOU for the awesome bags of wellness products! You can only imagine how much shampoo and conditioner 8 teenaged girls go through (and, quite honestly, how stinky a house of teenaged boys can get)! We are all grateful for these marvelous and useful gifts.

As you all learned yesterday our scholars come from situations of significant hardship including poverty, neglect, crime and drug ridden neighborhoods and domestic abuse. At BHGH Baltimore we empower them to overcome these obstacles with what we call “arms-around” care; safe and structured family-like homes, first class education, opportunities to learn about the world and support all the way through college. We serve them now so that they may help themselves to break these devastating cycles and achieve life-long success.

Please know, your visit not only meant so much with your tangible gifts, but we appreciate how you also helped the scholars practice their social competencies. As well, through your corporate giving and community service you have helped to reinforce our driving value of them becoming ‘men and women for others’. Thank you.

Happy Birthday Rite Aid! Wishing you many, many more.
